From Greek psukhopompos, from psukhē  "soul" plus pompos "conductor". A psychopomp is a guide whose primary function is to escort souls to the afterlife.

There are many stories of psychopomps throughout  mythological lore.

Some of the most well-known psychopomps include the Greek god Hermes, the Egyptian jackal-headed god Anubis, the Archangel Michael etc. 

Psychopomp is a very involved form of shamanic healing and has long been one of the role of the shaman who has  the ability to travel to the spirit realms and offer help to those in need. 

Psychopomp healing requires special qualities of the shaman who will always approach this healing task with the utmost respect and love. 

Psychopomp healing is used to assist the soul of the deceased  who may have not fully transitioned or may be stuck or lost,  unaware they are deceased, confused and suffering  in a state in between the physical and the spirit world. Teamed with his spirit helpers, the shaman  works  in assisting  them  cross over to the spirit world.
